Data management |
The success of the records centre is founded on the sharing of biological data and the systematic quality control of the data we hold. We work closely with recording groups and county recorders for various taxonomic groups, as well as reserve managers, local authorities and other experts to broaden our geographical and taxonomic data coverage and to ensure that the records held are correct in terms of species identity and likely habitat in which they were found.
We maintain our records for the county in a database, which includes a list of locations with details such as a brief site description and key habitats, as well as species records. We also use a Geographical Information System (GIS) to visualise species records for key groups, such as those protected under the Wildlife & Countryside Act, and thus to aid with the production of reports for local authorities and consultants, among other interested organisations. We also keep data on statutory and non-statutory protected areas in our database and GIS. These data include the designations of sites, location of boundaries, their area, habitats, survey history and reasons for the conservation value of sites. If you have records that you would like to submit to the centre, you can contact the data officers (Louise Bacon & Phil Ricketts, who job-share) using the details below: Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Biological Records Centre, The Manor House, Broad Street, Great Cambourne, Cambridge, CB23 6DH Tel: 01954 713571 Fax: 01954 710051 E-mail: dataATcpbrc.org.uk (replace 'AT' with @) |
